Our Biblical Foundation In Politics – Part 3

The Founders believed that government was the enforcer of God’s principles and rights.  At an opening session of the State legislature of Massachusetts Reverend Chandler Robbins reminded the legislators that the laws they enact must be in line with God’s Word.  He stated: “The Supreme Governor of the World rewards or punishes nations and civil communities only in this life.  Political bodies are but creatures of time.  They have no existence as such but in the present state; consequently, are incapable of punishments or rewards in a future.  We can conceive no way in which the Divine Being shall therefore manifest the purity of His nature towards such societies but by rewarding or punishing them here, according to their public conduct.”  This is why people of faith must be involved in our political arena.  Could it be that we have had so many hurricanes this year?  Obama’s eight years of anti-God policies, thumbing our nose at God and Israel must produce some form of punishment for this nation.  Think of hurricane Katrina.  The day it started to form was the day that Sharon began removing people from the Gaza Strip with the support of President Bush.  The bad policies of our leaders will always come back to haunt this nation.  The righteous will suffer along with the unrighteous. God cannot bless opposition to His will or His Word.

Proverbs 14:34 states: Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people. In the beginning we had people that governed according to God’s Word and just like in the Old Testament a king would do what was right in the eyes of God but he would not do everything right.  We did not eliminate slavery and we paid a big price for it during the Civil War.  There were 620,000 lives lost fighting that war.  Even though the Civil War was not fought specifically over slavery but for state’s rights, slavery was one of the things that the southern states felt was their right to keep.  Again, it was the Democrat Party that dominated the southern states and that Party today has become a Party that still demands a thumb on all its party members.  The new Chairman of the Democrat Party, Tom Perez, has declared that there is no room in that party for pro-life people. He’s even stated that the electoral college is not in the Constitution!  Could there be any more reason that to demand that our elected officials adhere to the principles of the Founding Fathers?

Most politicians in Washington are globalists not nationalists.  The House Speaker, Paul Ryan, is a globalist as is the Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell.  These two are the only reasons we did not repeal Obamacare.  They played a game while Obama was still president by voting to repeal it knowing that it would be vetoed but when Trump took office they knew he would sign it but now they couldn’t come up with the vote.  That’s called grandstanding and it is a slap in the face to the American people.  We elected Trump to accomplish something and Congress is there to implement that agenda.  Congress has not been for the American people for decades.  Paul Ryan gave Obama everything he wanted while he was still president even though the people didn’t want that to happen.  Our failure to put godly men and women into office is coming back to bite us.  We have become so disengaged with Washington and the political arena in general that all we look for is a “D” or and “R” after the name when we vote.

We have members of the Republican Party that have no real reason to be in that Party simply because they side with the Democrats more than the Republicans.  John McCain, Lisa Murkowski, Orin Hatch and Olympia Snowe have been a disaster for the Republican Party.  McCain as of late has become a major thorn in the side of Republicans.  He was the deciding vote to NOT repeal Obamacare even though he ran on repealing it.  He did so because he hates Donald Trump.  He wants to see him fail no matter the cost to the American people.  It was obvious that he would probably act like this if Trump was elected because of his dislike of Trump but the people voted him in anyway.  These are the type of people that we need to keep out of office.  They were elected to represent the people but they initiate their own agenda ignoring the will of the people.

Congress’ approval rating during the 2012 election was only 10%1, during the 2016 election it was 12.4%2, yet we returned about 90% of Congress to Washington.  Einstein was reported to state that doing the same thing over and over expecting different results is the definition of insanity.  This happens because we the people do not pay attention to whom we vote for.  Consider all the ‘Christians’ that belong to the Democrat Party, can they support a candidate in that Party when that candidate will support the platform that demands abortion at any time for any reason, demands homosexual ‘marriage’ be allowed even forcing those that oppose that anti-God ideology be fined for not accepting AND participating in that debauchery? Scripture warns us about aiding those that do evil: Jeremiah 23:14  I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an horrible thing: they commit adultery, and walk in lies: they strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them unto me as Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah.  I have been able to convince some Christians to change political party using that verse.  I’m not saying that the Republican Party is sinless, but our platform calls for no abortions, traditional marriage and the right of a pastor to speak freely about politics from the pulpit.  It may be the lesser of two evils but at least the majority of the Party supports God’s laws.

The Founders believed Proverbs 29:2  When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.  In my years on this earth I can remember only three times when America suffered big time because of the unrighteous people in the White House.  The four years under Democrat Jimmy Carter, a man who disliked Israel and snubbed them often, the eight years under Democrat Bill Clinton, his escapades in the Oval Office with interns, and the eight years under the muslim Barack Obama who tried to force debauchery and islam on the American people.  Things could be said about FDR, John Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush and probably every other president simply because no man is perfect but some are much worse than others.

What all this means is we have failed to have a watchful eye concerning the people we elect.  Samuel Adams stated, “The public cannot be too curious concerning the characters of public men.”  He also stated, “Religion and good morals are the only solid foundation of public liberty and happiness.”  Too many today don’t want to mix religion with politics, but our Founders did, and we need to do the same.  If we expect to maintain our rights and freedoms, we need people in office that will support those rights.
